Because this particular story is a sci-fi adventure, I originally chose to use a digital looking font. (see bottom image) this looks very effective from a design point of view but there are a number of problems which have occurred. This is intended to be an educational artifact about reading. This font only has upper case characters and the o's and d's look too similar. This makes it quite difficult to read and it really shouldn't be!. Also the fact that it is only upper case will not help readers learn punctuation.
I have decided to change it to Verdana. This i widely considered to be a very easy font to read and although doesn't fit in to the design of the application quite as well as the other one, it is far better for readers, especially ones who are weaker.
